For the ninth consecutive year, the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and the Ilustre Colegio de Abogados de Madrid, along with the Professor Uría Foundation, Cuatrecasas Foundation, Fernando Pombo Foundation and Garrigues Foundation held the course “The social responsibility of lawyers” at the Faculty of Law of the UAM. This year’s edition took place online.

The course was co-directed by Lucía López de Castro García-Morato, Tenured Lecturer of Administrative Law at the Faculty of Law of the UAM, and Jesús Remón Peñalver, Uría Menéndez partner and previously a State Lawyer with the Spanish Constitutional Court, and was composed of five modules: Social Responsibility, Human Rights, the Social Function of Lawyers and Sustainable Development Goal 16, Pro Bono, and Free Legal Aid in Spain.

On 18 Feburary, the Professor Uría Foundation led the session on human rights, which involved two round tables:

  • “Fundamental rights in companies”, by Leticia López-Lapuente, Sara Sanz Castillo and Daniel Cerrutti Buendía, the last of whom also moderated the round table.
  • “The constitution and fundamental rights: protection of fundamental rights”, moderated by Jesús Remón Peñalver, with Manuel Vélez Fraga and Xavier Codina García-Andrade as speakers.
