On 10 June, the Professor Uría Foundation held the closing event for the 2024–2025 academic year of the Legal Education Programme at the auditorium of Uría Menéndez’s Madrid office. The event was marked by a celebration of teaching contributions and thoughtful reflection on the educational challenges of today.
School principals, academic coordinators and teachers from many of the schools where the programme was delivered in Madrid this year attended, along with volunteers and programme supporters whose involvement has been instrumental to the success of the educational initiative.
Rafael Fuster, executive vice president of the Professor Uría Foundation, opened the event with welcoming remarks, thanking all teachers and collaborators for their dedication throughout the year. He was followed by Carlos López-Quiroga, trustee of the Professor Uría Foundation and head of the Legal Education Programme in Madrid, who remarked on the programme’s progress and presented key data on this year’s edition. He also reaffirmed the project’s core purpose: bringing the basics of law to public primary and secondary school students, promoting coexistence, inclusion and peaceful conflict resolution.
The keynote speech was delivered by Carlos Magro, an expert in educational innovation, under the title: “Neither technology nor artificial intelligence will revolutionise education, but we must take them seriously.” He offered a thought-provoking perspective on the role of digital tools in education, emphasising that, although they will not alone transform education, it is essential to understand their impact and use them with clear pedagogical intent. His remarks underscored the importance of an inclusive, participatory, student-centred school environment − one capable of cultivating critical, engaged citizens.
The event concluded with a heartfelt tribute to recently retired teachers, who were presented with tokens of appreciation in recognition of their long-term dedication and service.
