The seminar is organised by the Professor Uría Foundation with the collaboration of the General Directorate for Cultural Heritage and Fine Arts of the Ministry of Culture. This seventh edition of the seminar will take place in the auditorium of Uría Menéndez’s Madrid office from 3 April until 19 June 2024.

The focus of this edition is on a range of domestic and international cases concerning art law, for which we will have two speakers who will provide their perspectives on a topic: a jurist and an expert in the work, artist, genre, technology or artistic style that the judgment or set of judgments deals with.

The opening session featured speeches by Rafael Fuster, executive vice chair of the [Professor Uría] Foundation, and the co-directors of the seminar, Carlos González-Barandiarán y de Muller – deputy director-general of Registries and Documentation of Historical Heritage of the Ministry of Culture – and Agustín González García, a lawyer and trustee of the [Professor Uría] Foundation. The first lecture was by Guillermo Solana, artistic director of the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, who offered up a fascinating analysis of some of the works in Uría Menéndez’s collection. Miguel Martínez Gimeno, a partner at Uría Menéndez, then gave a comprehensive overview of the national and international regulations governing artistic freedom, paying special attention to EU legislation in this area.

The first session was rounded off with a reception and the chance for attendees to talk with the speakers and other guests.

The next sessions will deal with interesting topics such as the work of Salvador Dalí, appropriation, AI, the cases of the Sijena and Santa María la Real de Aguilar de Campoo monasteries, and the Nazi plunder of art.
